Bridal Basque or Bridal Bustier
When choosing wedding underwear it can certainly be a challenge if you don’t know your bustier from your basque. Whereas a basque offers a longer waisted support, a wedding bustier is a shorter version of a corset or basque and tends to finish just above or around the waistline. This can create the effect of a smaller waist whilst leaving your hips free. This style particularly suits a dress that flows out from the waist missing your hips, rather than an A-line.
Our bustiers are made from sumptuous satin or soft lace both offering you the most luxurious of fabrics. Whether you’re looking for a smooth finish with underwired cups for shaping support, or the full support of a boned wedding bustier, either will leave you feeling both comfortable and gorgeous. Most of our wedding bustiers include a low back designed to stay out of sight underneath your dress. Our wedding bustiers are available in white or ivory, the perfect accompaniment to your wedding gown. Matching knickers or thongs are also usually available to finish off that beautiful wedding bustier. A bustier can come with or without straps. Make sure you choose one that will not be visible underneath your dress so that the only person who gets to see your gorgeous new wedding underwear is your new husband on your wedding night!
As with all styles of wedding underwear, always be sure to go for something that is both comfortable and flattering underneath your dress, rather than because you think it’s pretty. You can always change into something more appealing to the eye for the wedding night!
Bridal Lingerie Explained
A wedding dress is the centrepiece of a wedding. But if the dress is the centrepiece, the bridal lingerie is the largest flower in the centrepiece. Without the right lingerie, a wedding dress doesn’t fit the theme. Who would think to wear cotton knickers and a simple bra underneath a wedding dress? Bridal lingerie can make or break the effects of a wedding dress. Different styles of lingerie can enhance or hide parts of the body that the bride feels are prominent.
The type of lingerie a bride chooses should depend on the style and length of the wedding gown. The choice will also vary with the bride’s body shape. Dresses that show some skin, or shorter dresses, will need an “invisible” undergarment that doesn’t get in the way. Women who wear strapless dresses cannot wear a bra. Guess again, here at Sophie & Grace, we have a fantastic range of strapless bras that while functional, still have the wow factor for your first night as Mr and Mrs. For women who need to enhance their breasts, a bustier or push-up bra can do wonders to make them appear larger and fuller.
Bridal bustiers are reminiscent of the old corset style of the Victorian Era. But unlike the old style, newer types actually emulate comfort. They also offer the control that brides need underneath all that fancy ribbon and lace. Bustiers are a popular wedding lingerie choice. They emphasise and control the bust.
It is usually the maid of honour who chooses the bridal lingerie. However, she only chooses lingerie for the wedding day itself. Sometimes the wedding night. It will be up to the bride to choose lingerie for the honeymoon. Each occasion will dictate a different kind of lingerie, since each has its own emotional context.
Finding bridal lingerie is a very important job. The bride will be wearing the wedding lingerie for more than twelve hours. She will need something that is comfortable while still being classy. Lingerie for the wedding night is easier to choose. No one but the bride and her new husband will see this lingerie. It’s all about romance. Frilly, lacy lingerie is sexy and provocative without heading into pornographic. The maid outfits and the fishnet stockings should be spared for later, when men and women need to spice up their sex lives, not on the honeymoon, when sex is most of the reason for celebrating!
A His and Hers Guide to Wedding Underwear
The Groom, being of the male persuasion, will give his undivided attention to his decision regarding his choice of wedding underwear. Will he wear boxer shorts or underpants? Will he buy new underwear for the wedding or will he insist that he already has a drawer full of drawers at home? This would, possibly, take two whole minutes of his concentration and then he would be thinking of more pressing matters; who will score the first goal, who will score the first run, should I go for a pint or what is there to eat?
The Bride
The Bride, on the other hand, would never consider wearing a tatty pair of knickers to her own wedding. Everything has been organised with the utmost attention to detail and it will be no different when it comes to her choice of wedding underwear.
White or ivory? Sexy basque, sassy bustier or a more demure bridal bra? Sophie and Grace have created their own wedding underwear collection to help her make the right choices to suit her.
Does the bride need the extra support that an under wired basque can offer (supports the bust, draws in the waist and hips) but has to fit under a wedding gown that has an off-shoulder neckline? However, if the bride is blessed with narrow hips or is intent on wearing a bridal petticoat, then she may prefer to wear a bustier, which would support her bust and gently draws in her waist.
Whichever wedding underwear the bride chooses from the bridal collection at Sophie and Grace, they can be assured of a high quality, gorgeous looking item. One that has been designed with the rigours of a wedding day in mind, but with the stunning beauty of making for a very long wedding night too!
Bridal Umbrellas
There’s nothing worse than being caught in the rain.
Well, there is. Getting caught in the rain on your wedding day.
The last thing you want is to be dressed up making your way from the wedding car to the church whilst getting soaked from the heavens above!
This can be easily avoided by being prepared with a wedding umbrella. We stock a range bridal umbrellas from Poirier to make sure the weather doesn’t ruin the day that you’ve been planning for ages.
Whether you want a blank bridal umbrella or one that says “Just Married” (which will also come in handy if you’re honeymooning in the UK… Or somewhere tropical during monsoon season) we’ve got it covered.
You may have prepared everything else, but make sure you are prepared for the weather.
